Weekly Question 07/03/14 #LBHQuery
Let’s start of by saying Captain America is awesome! I think he gets a bad rap for being too patriotic, or too much of a boy scout, like Superman. Does this this look like a ‘boy scout’ to you?
I’m guilty of this myself as I didn’t start reading Cap until the mid 90’s, right before the ‘Heroes Reborn’ Marvel project happened. Since then, Steven Rogers has gotten a lot more play in the Marvel Universe, but it wasn’t until the Ultimate Universe where we got this, almost career defining moment.
Not my favorite portrayal of the character, but based on his, and the rest of the Avengers reimagining in the Ultimates, we ultimately were lead right into the Marvel cinematic universe, most recently, this year’s Captain America: the Winter Soldier.
So the question this week to you, gentle listener, what is your favorite Captain America story? Is it from the Ultimate universe, is it from the classic Mark Gruenwald run from the 80’s or something more current? Just leave your choice in the comments below or shoot us a tweet with the hashtag #LBHQuery. If my entire household had a vote, it’d be the video below.
This was actually my first comic purchasing I ever did and started the whole collection. It started with Mike Zeck’s awesome cover on 332 and continued until 350. It was the resignation of Steve Rogers as Captain America, the replacement with John Walker, the manipulation and mental breakdown of Walker, also throw in the Red Skull, the Captain, the two shield variations, the wedge between Tony Stark and Steve, whats not to like.
I can say that there are a few shorter runs that may be better but the nostalgia of the first full story makes it my favorite.
Mark Gruenwald’s “Man and Wolf” (#402-408).
