Robserecaps Twenty Seven – episode 61 the Making of Deadpool part one
by Joe
I skipped the holiday episode, let’s start the new year fresh. And I recommend listening to the show as always, this is gonna be a banner year for the Rob, I can feel it!
- With the two weeks off, the Rob will NOT be discussing Wonder Woman 1984 on the pod
- The Rob hopes one day they tell the story of how dirty Zack Snyder was done by Warner Brothers
- The day New Mutants #100 came out was the first day of the Rob attending junior college. The Rob only lasted ten days and only enrolled to hang out with his buddies
- Since the Rob gets the question so often, there will be a future Robservations about the difference between cover date and ship date
- The only Batman or Daredevil the Rob likes is the Frank Miller versions
- The Rob also feels the Mandalorian and Rogue One are closer to George Lucas’s vision of Star Wars than anything else
- The Rob hopes these next few weeks are the audio equivalent of the Empire of Dreams documentary
- The Rob turned down offers to draw Doctor Strange, Alpha Flight and the Hulk to write and drawn New Mutants, since it was the lower selling title, the Rob could take more chances
- the Rob has 13 new characters, each with individual contacts about rights and licensing, he introduced in New Mutants, and the Rob himself cannot even name them all
- Keith Giffen (aka Salty Keith)’s approach on Justice League (top tier book without top tier characters and having a scripter and a layout person) is what inspired the Rob on his New Mutants and X-Force work
- The Rob writes to page flows, but sometimes an ad contract, a certain ad has to appear after a certain page, can mess that up
- Another inspiration for Deadpool (the first being the Dirty Harry movie) is the Danny DeVito/Arnold Schwarzenegger magnum opus, Twins
- Back in the Rob’s day, people were buying multiple copies of books because they were so exited, NOT for the potential resale value
- Much like the letter Ryan Reynolds sent the Rob after the first Deadpool movie praising the Rob, the Rob sent a letter to the studio decrying the portrayal of Deadpool in Wolverine Origins
- The Rob is getting many, many, many text notifications during this show and at about 61 minutes in, he finally turns off his phone
- Like when a movie studio would send a star a new car, a giant box showed up at the Rob’s house after New Mutants #98. The Rob thought it was a washing machine, instead it was all the Deadpool fan mail. This forced the Rob to move Deadpool’s next appearance up from X-Force #6 to issue 2
- New Mutants #98 was so hot, half of the second wave of the Toy Biz X-Men toy line was X-Force branded figures, including Deadpool, Cable and Domino
