Longbox Heroes Ep. 10: Crave the Digital Human Touch
DC is doing a good thing and (possible) bad things. Todd and Leonard discuss this at lenght. Marvel had fans vote on the best 75 stories of all time. Do the boys agree? All this, lots of Swamp Thing talk, plugs and other stuff. I’m bad at creative writing 🙁

Why don’t you ever review Batman? You both read it, but you never even mention it. The only DC you talk about are Jonah Hex and Swamp Thing. And please, could you give a little plot synopsis when you review a book? You review some things and never mention anything that actually happens in the issue. And if a book sucks, just say it, enough with the “positive comments only” crap.
Oh, and don’t tell me you don’t reveiw Batman because it”s a sales giant. You’re reveiwing Rocket Racoon, and it sold 300,000 copies.
Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment. To address your points:
– We’ve discussed Batman many times in the past, however, it is difficult to to talk about it recently as it was in the middle of the Year Zero storyline with no real good jumping on point
– We do feel passionately about Swamp Thing and All-Star Western, but have talked many DC books in the past, from Batman, Superman/Action Comics, Red Lanterns, etc.
– The are plot synopsis’s given in the show notes/links to CBR, however, books like the Walking Dead, for example, we can’t get too plot heavy since so many of our listeners wait for the trade & we try and keep spoilers to a minimum.
– We do get into some disagreements on the show, however, if a book “stinks” we feel the negativity helps no one if it’s not constructive. So we’ll just choose not to talk about it.
– As for not talking about big sellers, Rocket Raccoon is an anomaly re: sales. The books we discuss, for the most part are decided the week before, then when we read stuff over the next seven days, anything that really jumps out at us, we cover.
To be honest, I respect that Todd and Leonard do not discuss books they dislike. There are plenty of other comics based podcasts that are happy to tell the listeners how much they hate the books they read. I can even think of one where if they like a book it’s a surprise. I think the lack of negativity is refreshing.
Sorry, you do talk about Lanterns, so that’s 3 DC books, my bad. I started listening about a year or so ago, don’t recall any Batman talk. Or Superman, except for issue 33, when Johns and Romita started. Your show, review what you want.
I don’t read the website, just download and listen, so I never read those synopsis’s. I can’t be the only one. Maybe if you read the Diamond synopsis on the air.
As for trade -waiters, screw them ! If you love a book, buy it every month. Trade-waiters are going to kill this industry, wait and see. Trade reprints already killed the back-issue market. Only a matter of time.
Constructive criticism can make your show unique. I remember poor Todd dancing around on the air trying to say how much he hated the art in She-Hulk. If he was allowed to say, ” I think the art is awful.”, and then explain why he disliked it, it would make it a lot easier on him, and make a better show. I don’t mean blast something and move on, I mean, if you spent $8 ( one $4 book times 2) on something and you don’t like it, say why in detail. I find the lack of negativity creepy and suppressive, like news stories out of Communist Russia in the 80’s. Todd’s gonna revolt someday, watch out.
In conclusion, I like your show. It’s the first comic podcast I listen to every week, and I listen to about a dozen or more. There are just a few things I would tweak, if I could. Keep up the good work.
