Longbox Heroes Episode 380: Body Salesmen
Has DC created the future of retail? Or is this just another way to skirt around giving the fans the (replica) props they REALLY want. A fan favorite writer makes their return to Marvel after nearly 15 years and the return of market share discussion! All this, what we read last week, a Preview Review book, Todd’s Art Attack, a dip into the mailbag and a contest from our friends at D3 and Marvel Puzzle Quest!

Todd,
Dude seriously, what reasons do you have to not play Marvel Puzzle Quest? It is literally the best Marvel Superhero-themed, match-3, character collection game in the history of the universe. You will not find a better one anywhere, ever.
In addition to being an awesome game, playing it will make your hair grow back, clear up your skin, and make you sexier to women everywhere. Playing will make your dog smart, imbue you with supernatural strength, and mow your lawn. The game will get you a promotion at work, help you come up with new, fantastic ideas, and solve the mystery of who killed JFK. Finally, if you play enough, there is a good change the game could bring about world peace.
With all these benefits, there is no reason NOT to play MPQ. Believe me.
With respect,
DrStrangelov3
I will come to Todd’s house, Cinnabon in hand, and teach him how to play. We could then go to LJS for dinner and discuss fish math. 🙂

todd…i won’t try to convince you. if possible, i’d go back in time and convince myself not to play. it’s addictive. i play every morning whn i get up. i play every evening before bed. i play throughout the day. and all because i crave those sweet, sweet covers. it’s just a match 3 game you say, but if you try it you’ll be hooked. the game sucks. i hate it. i love it.

Todd, even though this may cost me the coveted Kraven cover and HP, I’m going to take a risk and encourage you to STAY AWAY from Marvel Puzzle Quest! It is entirely too much fun and addictive, and even though the friendships and camaraderie that you will gain and experience through your MPQ journey is a wonderful thing, and seeing your favorite Marvel characters come to life through a match 3 game is way more satisfying than it ever should be, it just comes at too great a cost. What is that cost, you ask? Well, if we continue to support the developers of Marvel Puzzle Quest with our time and resources, it’s possible that down the road, they could do the unthinkable and create a Dr. Who Puzzle Quest. And that’s a thought that is just too much to bear. There’s no hope for me, as I’m already in too deep and I will have to continue contributing to the MPQ war machine. But there is still hope for you! I repeat, stay away from the game that your dear friend Joe has been asking you to play, at the risk that Dr. Who PQ could one day become a possibility!

I was a huge comic fan when I was younger and just kinda lost interest over time. Loving match 3 games I picked this up. The game play is fun, the developers are always updating the game (for better or worse). It has gotten me back in to comics and it would strengthen them for you, not like you need it.

Todd, this game is like crack. If you’ve ever been curious what crack is like, you can get an idea of what it’s like without having to try it. now you’ll have to excuse me, i gotta go chase the mpq -blueeyzcal
Todd,
MPQ is worth playing because in no other game that I know of will you have to face team after team of Gamora, Rocket and Groot, and Medusa that you have to fight over…. and over… and over… again. On second thought, don’t play this game. ‘Tis a silly place.
Also, I should get points because my parents are giant nerds and my middle name is Adric.

Todd,
I’ve been playing MPQ for nearly three years. Now, when I say that, I don’t mean I’ve played once or twice a week for three years. I mean I have actively played for 1082 days.
I have literally put more time into this game than any three other games I’ve played and I’m still not at the end game.
PVP events give you faster reward turn-arounds. PVE takes longer, but the rewards are guaranteed if you just play enough missions. And there are special events where your alliance has to all fight together to get the best rewards.
If you like match games, this one is pretty dang fun.
Also, if we’re talking about puns, the best puns are in the PVE event “Webbed Wonder” which is about Spider-Man and Howard The Duck teaming up. Spidey cracks-wise and Howard does not appreciate it and the results still make me laugh out loud after 3 years.
Even if my argument doesn’t convince you, I still hope you give the game a chance. It’s loads of fun.
Thanks for reading,

Todd, I don’t know you but I want the prize. So I hear you like pie? When you get a match five, it’s like a flashing pie. So you’ve got that going for you. But seriously, it’s a fun match 5 game that has neat little supplements (powers) that give a real sense of achievement. I played this game from launch and have taken multiple breaks and can keep coming back.

I’m generally not a fan of F2P games, going out of my way to avoid playing any freemium games, but just recently (about 2 months ago) I gave in and decided to try out MPQ, all it took was about 15 minuets of playing and I was hooked. From seeing all of my favourite heroes come to life, all with unique abilities was something I didn’t expect from a game like this, and that was just the surface, after that I discovered the game had so much more to offer, I was expecting the game to be something small that I tried for few hours and never come back to, but here I am months later still playing every day, looking forward to each event and unlocking my childhood favourites, trying new hero combinations and discovering new things with help from the great community this game has.
Todd, I’m not sure if any of this will sell you on trying this game out, but if any of this intrigues you in the slightest you should give it chance.

Todd, you missed a great opportunity to trigger Joe this episode. You talked about how Pie charts are the best type of chart because of pie. Well if you played mpq, you would have to listen to the greatest mpq podcast The Puzzle Warriors 3, hosted by Ray and two other guys. Anyways, they have a pie segment where they review different pies, which has nothing to do with Marvel Puzzle Quest. Some people love it. Some hate it. Guess which camp joe is in? You can learn a lot of ways to mess with Joe by getting into MPQ. Oh and they game itself is pretty good too.

Todd,
MPQ is so much fun! It’s simple to play, yet layered with challenges. There is nothing more satisfying than going into a PvP match and winning over some faceless opponent. Knowing that the time and effort you put into your team has finally paid off. And now my all time favorite character is coming back from the grave to get into the mix. Why would you not play this game? This is the perfect chance to get on board and get in on the fun. Plus, Joe is there to give you lots of support and strategy to play. His wisdom is strong! Believe! Actually that is my real pitch, if I had Joe at my fingertips there would be no way I couldn’t play. His insight has helped me play better and without a doubt he will help you. Go for it!

First time listener, just here for the chance at the free Kraven cover to be truly honest, but there are SO many good and funny suggestions to Todd on reasons why he should play Marvel Puzzle Quest posted here ALREADY, and WHO KNOWS how many great e-mails sent to you, that I am just going to be brutally honest instead:
Todd, Do NOT start playing Marvel Puzzle Quest. If you enjoy puzzle games at all or just love Marvel Comic book characters, this game will suck you in and steal hours of your life every day! I, like many who have already posted here, have been playing MPQ for a couple of years… literally EVERY DAY for over 2 years! I MUST log in every day to continue to get my daily log in bonus and I have to at least play the Deadpool Daily Quests to score the easy 3-Star cover, “Taco” token pulls and CP. So, Todd, just save yourself the addiction and time lost from your life and do not play this game. You have been warned.

Todd, the simple answer for how you will be enticed to play Marvel Puzzle Quest is this: You will be able to do LESS work on Longbox Heroes than ever before, because Joe will actually understand your excuse. Everyone will be on your side!

Hello good sirs! I come to you by way of the PW3, of which as a State College resident, I feel a particularly affinity toward. As to why you, Todd, should be playing Marvel Puzzle Quest, I will go with the straightforward classic “All the cool kids are doing it. Don’t you want to be cool?” In-game ID is TrixieTime, should you decide to be one of the cool kids.
Todd,
Do you love super heroes?
Do you love having imaginary battles between them?
MPQ does a great job of all these theoretical battles, Carol against cap? Cool we can do it!
Deadpool literally against everyone? Again, lets just whale everyone!
The game is fun, keeps us busy with new content all the time, I would recomend it for a hobby to keep you busy in those down moments,
6 month played at MPQ, i love this game and how they put prizes at “carrot on stick” style, so the race is to get enough HP to roster your hard earned prizes.
Unfortunatelly they don’t only sell iso and HP, they sell covers too, so this make this game pay to win, and this is the bad side.
Fortunatelly because they don’t want to put in PVP the guaranteed rewards by wins (they did once) and they persist in points way, i barely play PVP events, when i have time i play until get 50 or 100hp, no more sadly. But i play very hardcore all PVE events and enjoy a lot.this game, Todd, if you like 3-match games, this is the best game to play, every hero have is own powers that matches the marvel style hero at perfection (usually). Like Hulk 4* destroying the board when enter in play first turn.
I recommend everyone to try this game, engaged me from start 🙂
Congratulations by the podcast.

Honestly, it would be a good idea to stay as far away from MPQ as possible. Do you want to lose your family and friends? Your job? Your savings? Do you want to end up a vagrant traveling around the city stealing wifi just to log on to get your daily rewards fix? Holding a sign on the corner saying “Will work for HP?” Do yourself a favor and forget you ever heard of that game. I have to go now, I’m getting kicked out of Starbucks for “bothering the other customers” with my “offensive odor” whatever that means.
Ya boy,

Todd,
So many people have given fantastic responses. Here’s mine: Play MPQ, but don’t let it absorb your entire life, because, if you let it, it surely will. This game is fantastic and never feels like it is getting old or boring, as the developers do a great job of spicing things up now and again. And the real beauty of this game is that it is all about treasure hunting-you are constantly going from one treasure to another. But you can enjoy it, even in a casual manner-just grabbing the covers that you can and trying to improve your roster. Even new players can fairly quickly improve their roster and work on improving it even more.
